keladry_lupin: (Baby Elephant)
My back ached something fierce this morning, so I took the day off for a damned good thrashing from the chiropractor and rest. I also worked on the hobbit hole a bit; now all the clutter is at right angles! (Nah, I did a little more than that.)

Blah blah blah Sherlock fic writing. )

I'm too sleepy for brevity or proper organizing this morning, but it's mostly good stuff. )

I had a somewhat productive weekend. Read more... )

Happy Valentine's or Singles Awareness Day for them that celebrates it. For me, it's just Tuesday.
keladry_lupin: (Writing Struggle)
This is the third time I've started to write because a prompt appealed to me, and then after a few thousand (or a few ten thousand) words into it, I realized that as much as I liked the prompt, it didn't suit the characters. I don't abandon it, but it takes better writing than I think I'm capable of to reconcile canon characterization with OOC behavior. I try anyway, though.

good stuff

It's Monday. Yay. Here's my weekly Cheer Myself Up to Get Over the Monday and Tuesday Blahs List of Happiness:

1. I proved last night that I definitely have one of those brains that will come up with SOMETHING if I just force myself to sit down and write. It's not fantastic, but it's words. One scene down, about a dozen to go.

2. Saw the family Saturday. Everyone was sick, unfortunately, but well enough to go through with Squirt's baptism and lunch afterwards. Had a nice chat with Boo-Girl about college plans.

2a. Neither Dad nor I has showed signs of getting the dreaded lurgy that the Jimbos have, though we won't be sure we haven't caught it until tonight.

3. Mom was home very briefly this weekend. Not long enough to hang out properly, though she did listen to an episode of Cabin Pressure and laughed her butt off. And she adored the Ottery St Sherlock crossover vid I posted here last month.

4. Finally bothered remembered to get iTunes so I could get the aforementioned Cabin Pressure from Audible and burn it onto CDs for the commute.

5. New-to-me books! A few overviews of subjects I might try at college and a novel sent by mistake -- I was ordered Bob Balaban's Spielberg, Truffaut, and Me (his diary of making Close Encounters of the Third Kind) and got the novelization of Close Encounters of the Third Kind instead. They refunded my money, told me to keep the book, and I'm trying my luck with another bookseller.

6. A clean-ish hobbit hole. I maintain a certain, slightly-below-average level of neatness and cleanliness most of the time (the black dog's visits and tech week of plays being the exceptions), but I make an effort when I expect someone else -- even Mom -- to set foot inside any time soon. And once it's halfway decent, I make an effort, at least for a while, to keep it that way.

7. Rain tomorrow!

Happy Monday, y'all.
keladry_lupin: (Too Much Time in My Head (Sherlock))
A 2025-word outline (and a little dialogue) for an idea I saw on Tumblr four hours ago. In other words, it's the wrong fic. Should end up being somewhere between 9K and 15K words.

Damn plot bunnies.

But on the bright side, I donned the fedora and WROTE for the first time in three months.

2:38 in the morning. I'm revved up from being creative, so I don't feel tired, but I suspect I'll drop off about twenty seconds after I turn the light off, so good night.

Where is the life that I recognize? )
keladry_lupin: (Default)
Because even though it's Thursday and not Friday (or Monday or Tuesday), I need a bit of a pick-me-up. (This is what I get for staying up too late.) So here's a list of happiness for ya.

♥♥♥ 16,200-ish words on the fic is compensation for the staying up too late I mentioned. Read more... )

♥ Phil's coming back again to see ItW tonight. Read more... )

♥ I washed dishes this week! (It's pretty scary when this is a major accomplishment.)

♥♥ I'm going to bake Saturday morning! Read more... )

♥♥♥ Though he's very poorly, affectionate Boo-Cat is affectionate as ever, even when he's outraged by me bathing him every week. (Those baths are very funny.)

♥♥♥♥♥ I keep finding new and gorgeous music in the oddest places. A Sherlock fanfic introduced me to the King's Singers, whose version of Loch Lomond I have become seriously addicted to. And don't get me started on the Eagles, Anúna, and Chanticleer.

♥♥ I got a lovely compliment last weekend. Read more... )

♥ New bunny slippers! Read more... ) I also ordered Mimi's birthday present (she'll be one in five weeks) at the same time, and it's freaking adorable.

♥♥♥ Jennifer, our Stepmother, helps me change costumes quickly in exchange for me lacing her into her corset every performance. Read more... )

♥♥ Taking tomorrow off work, because I am bushed. Four-day weekend!

♥♥♥♥ Autumn should arrive within the next few weeks. The last several summers have been quite mild in comparison to the ferocious heat I remember from my childhood, but they're still summers. The crisp coolth of the first true autumn breeze is something I anticipate with great enthusiasm every September.

I've realized that my lists are rather repetitive, but that's because they're good things in my life over and over. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
keladry_lupin: (Too Much Time in My Head (Sherlock))
Today's gratitudinal thought is another It-Made-My-Day thingy:

I love those light bulb moments when I start thinking about an established character and what little we know about some aspect of hir life from canon and then start extrapolating details from that and create an entire background for a fic based on that little bit we know.

It's exhausting, though.

And frustrating when I'm not in a position to write as much as I'd like right then. I did fill several large post-its with ideas in tiny writing during lunch, though, so I have stuff to go on when I do have time to focus later. Yellow post-its are background and research to tie canon to the universe I'm creating for the fic, orange ones have to do with the story/plot/characterization.

cool stuff

It's been a while since I've made a list of happiness. Read more... )

Deep joy, for it is Friday. (Not quite yet for me, but it is for most of the rest of you.) Those of you at Aeternitas, have a wonderful time and take lots of photos, for I am jealous and must live vicariously!
keladry_lupin: (So There (Emma))
I just read this in the Harvard Health Letter, December 2010 issue, page six. The quote is from an interview with Shelley Carson, a Harvard psychologist and author of Your Creative Brain.

Q: Can you be happy and creative?

A: Happy and creative, yes. But contentment--it's the enemy of creativity. The creative mind is a hungry mind, a thirsty mind, not a satiated mind. It wants more.

I've suspected this about myself for the last several months, so it's nice to have it confirmed. Even if it's explaining why I've squeezed out a grand total of 3,000 words over the last year. Hmph.

I'm not dumping Phil just to get my writing mojo back, though. I know very well that he'll start to bug me eventually (if he sticks around long enough), and then writing will be my consolation once more.
keladry_lupin: (Wolfsbane Eyes)
Since this is my fandom journal, talking about fandom-related stuff once in a while might be a good idea.

Much gratitude to all who have been reviewing Wolfsbane at OWL and Ashwinder. I'm not ignoring your reviews; as most of you know, I'm just in the middle of a lengthy laptop repair with no backup computer. I do appreciate and enjoy the reviews I get for all my fics, even though sneaking glances at them during work is the only way I get to read them right now.

More sneaking later tonight when I post chapter five. This chapter contains a few completely new scenes that weren't part of the original fic.

Day eleven of the laptop drama: )

[livejournal.com profile] softobsidian74 put out a call yesterday for writing buddies for this morning. She's on the East Coast, so 10 a.m. is a perfectly reasonable time for her, but I'm still groggy at 7 my time. But I'm here, though I'll only be on for about an hour.

Edit: One hour, my foot. Over the last two hours, I've done a bit of research, watched a YouTube video several times (more research ... really!), and written 590 words. UST scene in a way that's been done a few times before, but as the UST stays U, I hope it's different this time: Read more... )

The UST needs more ST, but this is only the first draft.
keladry_lupin: (Writing Curse a Bit)
Cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] writingbuds.

I'll be on from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. PST (give or take a few minutes) tonight. This is probably too late for anyone in the US who's east of Nevada, but it's the middle of Saturday for anyone in Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Asia.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'll also be writing for a couple hours tomorrow morning, starting at 7:00 a.m. I think this comes out to 3:00 p.m. for my friends in the UK and Ireland and 4:00 p.m. for Western Europe.

Another edit: Very little writing, mostly editing. Net increase of ... wait for it ... Read more... )

*puff, pant* Just got home. Who's writing this evening? I'll be on for the next hour and a half.

Edit: Just 320 words tonight, mostly editing, but I added a new sub-scene to the prologue: Read more... )
keladry_lupin: (Plotting in Progress)
I'm ten minutes from starting another writing session. I'll be on for two hours, and then I've got to go, because I'm knackered. And if I don't reply to a comment right away, it's because I'm in the laundry room. *sheepish grin* It was either that or get up at 3 a.m. to do it tomorrow, and while I may be crazy, I'm not stupid.

Get ready ... get set ....

Edit: Okay, two hours and then some have passed. How did you do? Care to share a snip or word count? Avery posted at her LJ, and Kizzy and I both have reported in the comments to this post.
keladry_lupin: (5 for Five)
I know I've mentioned it before, but [livejournal.com profile] 5_for_five is a great way to measure your progress, no matter what you're writing. The goal is to write five hundred words, five days a week. That's manageable!

As of today, the summer session is over and the autumn begins, so go here to sign up. Fer made a pretty parchment, and Shug will give out "stickers" to attach to it as we make progress.
keladry_lupin: (Pen and Ink)
[livejournal.com profile] anijade and [livejournal.com profile] averygoodun (maybe) and I are going to start a writing buddy session at 7:30 p.m. Pacific, 10:30 p.m. Eastern time. Anyone who wants to try to get unstuck or just write a bit is welcome to join us, and we'll all report back to each other with a word count for this evening's writing session.

Ladies, start your laptops, and I'll see you when you're finished!

Edit: tonight's total is 767 words, and here's a snippet, just to prove I wrote something: Read more... )

Anyone want a writing buddy for tomorrow evening? I must walk, but I'll be online for an hour or two after 7 p.m.
