time to put my life back together
Dec. 20th, 2010 09:00 amMy flat looks awful and smells worse. The poor cats have been doing their business in a box that hasn't been scooped since Friday morning, I don't have a single clean cereal bowl or drinking glass, and the recycle bin is overflowing. It won't keep me from doing another play eventually, but I will plan better next time. I'll have enough vacation time to take Hell Week off, and I'll hire a cleaning service to dust and mop my floors when everything gets intense.

Today, my SED meme is what I've already hinted at: I'm gonna start cleaning so I have a nice, clean flat for Mom and me for the holidays. This morning I'll wash at least half the dirty dishes, scoop the Beastie Boys' box, organize the shopping (I only put the refrigerated stuff away Saturday), and take out all the trash and recycling. Also, I'll put a pound of frozen bread dough in the fridge so I can make myself a pizza for tonight's dinner (and a couple more meals). Then I'm off to work, where I will torture my coworkers with chocolate; I bought a big bag of Ghirardelli squares to share with everyone.

I. Kid. You. Not. We played this song on TV three times in a row. Baby stayed quiet the whole time, but as soon as Jimbo switched to Metallica, she started crying again. And then she quieted down again when Jerry Lee Lewis's, B. B. King's, and Stevie Wonder's segments from that same concert came on. Six weeks old, and she loves classic rock; we have the awesomest baby in the whole world.
That baby has a soporific effect. Put me in the rocking recliner and the Wee Beastie on my chest, and I drop off in two minutes. The few times she got grumpy, only her mama or Jagger could soothe her, but the rest of the time, she was sweet. (Except for the exploding diaper incident that took three of us to clean up after, but she got a bath and smelled lovely after.) She's wiggly, though! I scrambled to keep hold of her when she went from being asleep on my chest to flinging her entire body over the armrest of the recliner after dinner. She's six weeks old, remember, and she almost got away!
I was half asleep when I heard Boo-Girl murmur that "Aunt Trina has a new woobie." Meaning she wasn't my woobie any more. (Family term: a woobie is something like Gollum and his Precious, but much less creepy.) So I handed the Wee Beastie over to Mom when Boo suggested a card game and played with her and my dad, and she got an extra hug at the end of the night. Yes, I love that new baby smell, but Boo's still my darling girl.

Oct. 30th, 2010 10:07 pmHappiness is a comfortable recliner and a placid newborn baby.
We celebrated Dad's birthday today, so I met him at a friend's house after rehearsal and we drove out to the Jimbos' house together. I grabbed the Wee Beastie about five minutes after I walked in the door and didn't let her go until about four hours later when we had dinner. I commandeered the recliner, laid her on my chest, and she slept while I dozed all afternoon. I had to rock some of the time to get her to go to sleep, but once she was out, I put my feet up and relaxed. I watched the World Series game (go, Rangers!) with Jimbo and Dad and talked baseball and the play and stuff, and I saw to the baby's needs to give Chris and my mom some time off from taking care of her. I talked with both Boo and Squirt a lot too, so I wasn't ignoring everyone.
The Wee Beastie got very fussy after dessert; I changed her diaper twice in fifteen minutes, walked her, patted her back to get her to burp or fart (Chris said it was most likely gas), and tried to feed her, but nothing worked. Holding her got me out of dish duty, though, so that's definitely a victory in my book!
