This is a first. In my mail with the invoices and catalogs was a plain envelope. It was addressed to the library, not anyone in particular, which is why I got it. I opened it and found a two-page advertisement for a masseuse in Newport Beach. She described herself in great detail and gave her rates, plus how much extra a hand job is.

*blink, blink*

Wait ... what?

*reads again*

EW.

envelope --> shred bin

*washes hands quickly*

I'm on a panel for jury duty. Can't talk about the case at all, not even if it's civil or criminal. Read the subject line for my reaction.

I still plan to go into work a couple evenings this week, though, just to get the bare minimum done.

A change of pace can be nice -- I shan't complain about my six-minute commute (instead of half an hour each way) and being in the courthouse for no more than five hours per day instead of eight hours of work. I just wish it wasn't this.

*pathetic attempt to look on the bright side*

Whee! I'm home early enough to do laundry and get some work done around the hobbit hole!

*still scowling*

It was worth a try.

I did get a LOL today: I recognized a familiar face as I approached the jury holding pen this morning. It was my upstairs neighbor, Oliver! So we hung out and chatted until we were both called to the same courtroom, and he got excused to go back to the holding pen after the panel (with me on it) was finalized.

A local petroleum company and a research team have been doing a geophysical survey of Long Beach over the last few months, and they went down the street behind mine today. I wish I'd had more notice so I could have seen it, because I read the pamphlet that was left on my door this morning and found it quite interesting.

The effects were terribly unsettling, though. Low-frequency sound waves are sent down into the ground by a huge truck, and they bounce back into sensors that have been placed on the surface of the ground. I couldn't hear the sounds, but I could feel the heavy THRUM when the sound goes out from the truck they're using. It's like an earthquake, but not really, because the ground isn't moving, but I was as freaked out as if it was. I only heard the faintest rumbles (the human ear can't hear below 15-20 Hz), but the lower frequencies must have been very loud because it rattled through my body, and my ears were ringing. It's creepy! The cats got very needy for the twenty minutes the survey lasted; they didn't like this any more than I did.

Thank goodness it only lasted twenty minutes.

Yeeeeaahhh ... if it's past midnight but I'm still awake, it still counts as Friday, right?

Today I just took care of myself. Stretched, stayed hydrated, ate lots of potassium-rich stuff so I can stay healthy for the play and Christmas and all that. Finished it off with a bowl of hot soup. Yum yum yum yum yum.

Four church friends came to see us tonight, and one of them had a tin of homemade sweets and a Christmas card each for me and Phil. I'm full now, but that'll be my first stop once I get out of bed.

This play is bad for the actors' health, though! Getting a little graphic here, so don't click if you're squeamish. )

I get a little narcoleptic in the minutes before a performance. I sit in one of the rocking chairs, and my eyelids get all heavy. I don't think about anything, like my lines or blocking. I just blank my mind out and take in (without really listening) all the babbling of everyone around me. It's very calming, even when my butterflies are at their worst.

Good night, everyone. And happy birthday to my Mom, who first appeared on 10th December several decades ago.
