she's alive!

I like the computer program I use for embroidery in many ways (it was free, for starters), but when I upload an image and it assigns colors, sometimes the colors are a little off. It will make the darkest brown areas navy and turn a fair-skinned person shades of gold or green. (I really should start another project over; it looks more like green-blooded Spock than sallow-skinned Snape.) So tonight, I cataloged all the chart's flesh colors from light to dark: 24 of them. When I have an hour and natural light at the same time, I will pull out every embroidery floss color I own that could possibly be a variation on slightly-tanned-white-dude flesh and reassign colors, from the highlights on the tip of his nose to the darkest shadows. God is my copilot.
It sounds like I hate this, but I really do love doing these embroidery projects. Once I know everything is the way I want it, it's very soothing, and I like creating a picture pixel by pixel.
Saw Pirates last week. I went tosee hear Martin Freeman, and he made me laugh a lot. Hugh Grant would not be the first actor I would think of if I was casting a pirate, but that's why he works for that particular character. I recognized other voices and was disappointed when the Albino Pirate was obviously not Russell Tovey (what's up with that?!), but I liked it.
Will see The Avengers some time this week, though I'm not sure exactly when. People at Tumblr and Twitter are already spoiling now that U.S. opening weekend is over, and there's at least one thing I know that I really wish I didn't, so it'll be soon.
Bubba the Hutt is under the desk, curled up on top of my bunny slipper. Poor sweetumps; I can't decide on whether it'd be a good idea to bring another cat into the flat; I really think he loves having my undivided attention, but he's obviously lonely when I'm at work. (I'm not sure he was any less lonely when Boo-Cat was alive, though.)
Graduation this Saturday. I have new duties; instead of bossing students around, I get to boss their parents and spouses around instead. But it means I have to wear something nicer than my usual jeans and blouse. Hmph.
Listened to Coraline this weekend. It's the first Neil Gaiman book I've read, and I loved it. The rats in the audio recording were incredibly creepy, and I was quite satisfied by the story, even though some plot elements were predictable and the target age is about ten.
Dad and I had our usual lunch Saturday, and we stopped at a local record shop on the way home. I'd made him listen to Alabama Shakes on the way to the restaurant, and he found a CD from a 60s band called The Millennium, so we listened to that on the way home. Music swap win!
Not sleepy, so I'll go read Covering McKellen on the sofa until I am. Good night!
