keladry_lupinI spent hours last night looking at photos of Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rupert Graves for a Sherlock fanart. Mostly Rupert Graves at this point, because Lestrade will be on the left, so I need to draw him first. The wall behind my sofa looks like a really cheap shrine to the boys of Sherlock, with low-quality black and white photos ganked off the Internet taped up for reference (as well as the relevant passages of the fanfic the art will go with).
I told Phil about this wall of photos last night; he laughed and said I sound like a thirteen year-old girl. I did have photos of boys on my wall twenty-five years ago, and the Sherlock boys are pretty much the same kinds: the beautiful boy who downplays his gorgeousness to be taken seriously (Johnny Depp then, Rupert Graves now), the brooding boy with wild hair and great lips (River Phoenix then, Benedict Cumberbatch now), and the adorable, cuddly hobbit you want to take home and cuddle the stuffing out of forever (Sean Astin then, Martin Freeman now).
Hm. I think I just played Shag, Cliff, Marry without realizing it. *smirks* Except I really couldn't Cliff any of them.
Finding the right photo of Rupert Graves is hard, though! He has to be laughing; it's in the story. I've only seen him in one movie and Sherlock; my copy of that movie is no good for research because it's on VHS, and he's grim as an Easter Island statue in Sherlock. I must rent more of his movies so I can get him laughing.
*sighs happily* Looking for just the right photos of these guys is a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
