This could be considered a Good Things Friday list, but it's not numbered or anything.
Well, I've had more sleep, which means I wasn't weeping when I got out of bed. It'll take a few days to catch up on rest, but I'm on my way. And opening night of The Crucible went really well. I'm the stage hand who is available the most nights, so I've been put in charge of things, even though both Greg and Patrick have loads more theater experience than I do. (I get a walkie-talkie! Whee!) It's fun and tiring, having long periods with nothing to do and then short bursts of:
HURRY HURRY
MOVE CHAIRS
ROTATE PLATFORM
DUDE WHERE'S MY PIN?
FASTEN PLATFORM
ARE WE DONE YET?
OH CRAP WHERE'S THE GAVEL / BIBLE / BREAD?!
OKAY WE'RE GOOD
HURRY OFF STAGE!!!
Last night, we messed up one very minor thing that was inconvenient but not disastrous and were able to get back on track quickly. Good opening night.
Maly is a gutsy broad. The play starts with the girls dancing (spellcasting) in the forest with Tituba, and Abigail and one other girl dance naked on stage. They're behind a translucent black scrim and the lighting is at half power, but Mal (who has body issues though she's built like a Barbie doll) was still terrified. She did it, though! She wasn't completely nude, but I don't think a seamless, flesh-colored thong does much. I didn't see it and might not get the chance, but I did hear the audience gasp when it happened.
Phil was at the barbecue last night but had to leave before the show because he had work. I neglected him a bit because it was the first time I saw C since her eye surgery and early departure from Scrooge and Marley. He'll be there tonight to see the show, though, which is good.
Harry Potter birthday party tomorrow morning, and I'm Professor Pomona Sprout. The kids will be sorted into Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw (the parents are Slytherins), and each House will rotate through three classes. I'm going to look up some facts about the herbs we'll use and give a few facts about each one -- what different cultures used them for and how we use them today, that sort of thing. (Though I think I'll leave out the part in mythology about rosemary having come from Uranus' semen.) Then for a party game, Mary's got some of each herb in a bag, and the kids will smell them and try to guess which is which. The kids will make lavender sachets until Trelawney takes over. Photos will follow eventually; I'm hoping to get at least one photo with my Hufflepuff kids, but we'll see how it goes.
I might get a chance to have a nap between the party and The Crucible tomorrow, but I'm kind of doubting it.
Church Sunday, a nap, a bit of house cleaning, and I've invited Phil to come over for dinner, but he hasn't said yea or nay yet. I think it depends on if his brother's still in town. No The Crucible Sunday, though, since they don't have a Reverend Hale, which means I'm off until Thursday evening.
Monday is sleeping in, house cleaning, laundry, errands, and waiting for the Verizon guy to show up in the afternoon. I shall finally resume reading Three Men in a Boat, transcribing QI, and cuddling the Beastie Boys as I wait. Maybe a preliminary sketch for a fanart I've been wanting to do for a week, too. Then Monday evening will be spent moving the computer to the bedroom, hooking it up, and decluttering the kitchen. Mom's going to be so happy when she comes home and sees nothing on the kitchen table but a tablecloth and flowers!
Happy Friday, y'all.
