*****

I keep forgetting I'm not twenty any more. I've shorted myself on sleep for three nights because of The Crucible, and I'm already a wreck. I used to be able to go for five or six days with less than six hours a night before the shakes would start. I dreamed about naps last night, for goodness' sake!

Still, it's worth it. There are at least five of us in the stage crew pool; four is the optimal number and the job can be done with three or even two. Stage manager Lisa is going over everyone's availability for the run, and we'll have our schedules by the end of the day. I've never been part of a stage crew before, and unlike other plays I've been in, we have four scene changes that involve movements of props, chairs, a tree stump, a table, a rolling platform with a fireplace on it, and a bed. So we spent most of last night's rehearsal backstage, sketching all the props/furniture and all the moves out on two posters, choreographing who does what. We have it figured out for when there's four of us, but we're going over variations tonight: who does what when there's three of us or even two of us. So I have to be there an hour and a half before the actors do tonight. The four of us did pretty well last night, and we'll be going like clockwork soon. This play is going to be fantastic.

Fun tomorrow! The Mysterium has been at its present location for several months, but they signed a longer-term lease with the church where the theater is and have been able to make some major improvements, so they're doing a ribbon-cutting tomorrow afternoon. The barbecue starts at 5:31, and the opening performance of The Crucible is at 7:01. Phil works at the cinema from 8:00 to midnight, but he'll be there for the picnic. With the week I'm having, I wouldn't go if Phil wasn't coming. Not because I don't like the Mysterium people (it should be obvious by now how I feel about these folks), but because I'd be able to get another hour of sleep tonight if I skipped the party. But this is the first chance I'll get to see Phil since Sunday, and I want that more.

Haven't picked up a book or transcribed any QI since Saturday. I'm not ditching any of my regular responsibilities this week, but I plan to take naps Saturday and Sunday and sleep in Monday liek woah. (Taking the day off work because the phone guy's coming.)

I feel like the engine that kept saying "I think I can, I think I can." I think I can keep getting up early enough to get to work and then get to the Mysterium on time. I think I can remember all my queues and jobs during the shows. I think I can continue running on less sleep than necessary without having a psychotic episode.
