Damn these Santa Ana winds. We always get a heat wave (highs above 75F for a week or two) when a high pressure system moves over SoCA every January. My allergies are going wild, but I'm not completely inconsolable because I'm pretty sure my cold is getting better.

I'm seeing Alice in Wonderland at the Mysterium tonight! Fanboy that he is, Phil's already seen it, but he's coming again. (We'll go again in two weeks when one of the cast members, a friend from S&M, celebrates her birthday.) We're meeting before the play at a used book shop that's a few miles from the theater -- I have a list of six books I'm looking for (surely they'll have at least one), and I haven't been to the Bookman before. Hee!

I have a busy Saturday coming. An acquaintance of mine and a friend of Phil's, Jerad, passed away a month or two ago. I'd only met him two or three times, but he was a funny, amiable guy. Turns out he was well thought of enough that one of the community playhouses in L.A. is hosting a memorial on Saturday. Phil has to work, but he asked me to still go on his behalf since I had been planning to go with him. (It eases my social-phobic mind that other friends of ours will be there.) Then I have church stuff in the evening. After all that, though, I'm pretty sure I can ride this cold just enough to give myself a restful Sunday afternoon. It would be very nice to have Phil over, but unless I feel 100% better AND the hobbit hole miraculously cleans itself, I'll just change back into my pajamas after church and cook and watch movies/write/read all afternoon.

I'm in full nerd gear today: a long-sleeved, button-down shirt with skinny pink, cranberry, white, and grey stripes, a cranberry sweater vest, and brown jeans (it doesn't particularly match; it's just that brown goes with everything). I love this outfit, even though I know the sweater is made for men and therefore gives me no waist at all. And I can't wear this shirt without it; it looks like a circus tent. I pair the clothes with drippy earrings and brown Mary Janes that have an eyelet-type pattern on them to make the whole picture look a little less masculine, especially with my hair.

Speaking of my hair, I haven't had it colored in about two months, and there's a glimmer of grey at the temples for anyone looking for it. I really like that.

I seem to be entering another girly phase. I go in cycles of how I want to dress: I spend about a year in skirts and then two or three years in jeans and plaid flannel before starting the cycle again. With my hair so short, I want to compensate with feminine garb. Nothing too edgy, cute, or childish -- I'm 37, for heaven's sake -- but I keep thinking of outfits with mostly clean lines and solid colors, but with one print or ruffled seam thrown in there to shake things up. I always know it's started when I fantasize about wearing heels and owning more than three pairs of earrings.

I purchased a pair of Sherlock-ish earrings that I saw earlier today at [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc. They're very pretty and should arrive in about three weeks. I saw them and wanted to learn jewelry making so I could fashion a pair for myself, but then I saw a link in the comments to an Etsy store and went that route. (Quicker that way.) I am still curious about making jewelry, though, because I can't really define what does and doesn't work for me, and it'd be easier to just put my own together rather than give someone else a laundry list of my likes and dislikes. ([livejournal.com profile] lillithj is the only person who has chosen well for me, and my own family? Hopeless.)
