Well, Mom just called.

She was watching the press conference broadcast on lds.org, and she called to let me know. As expected, the LDS Church's new president is Thomas S. Monson. His first counselor is Henry B. Eyering, who was Gordon B. Hinckley's second counselor, and the new second counselor is Dieter F. Uchtdorf, who has been an apostle for about three years.
During his time of church service, President Monson has been big on humanitarian efforts and seeking out the poor and needy. He is one of the youngest men ever to serve as a bishop in the LDS Church; he was twenty-two, and responsible for the temporal and spiritual needs of his congregation (the average size of a congregation is several hundred people). He was called to be an apostle at the ripe old age of thirty-six, which is younger than most bishops.
Jimbo recorded President Hinckley's funeral services onto DVD on Saturday. Five hours, including the gravesite service! I haven't watched it all -- I was busy working around the flat last night -- but I listened to President Hinckley's daughter speak about her father. I'll catch more of it later, probably this weekend.
