Author's Notes: Not mine, never was. I'm not sure if this is what the mods had in mind for the "Regency" challenge, but it's what my off-kilter mind cooked up.

Hermione snuggled into Severus’ favourite armchair, swathed in a blanket, shivering despite the fire two feet from her knees. Her book, Persuasion, trembled in her blue fingers. I left my wand in the bedroom, she realized. Still, perhaps she could get some help warming up: ‘Crookshanks?’

Her ancient beastie looked up, creaked to his feet, and flopped onto his side on the rug.

‘Brat,’ she grumbled.

The door opened, the wind whipping Hermione’s hair around her face. Severus entered the cottage as well, carrying a bundle of firewood, more wood floating inside to settle in the corner of the room.

Severus set two logs on the fire and put the rest in the woodpile. He shook the snow from his hair and pulled the scarf from his neck, walking back towards the door. As he passed, Hermione grabbed his hand, yanking him onto her lap.

Though taken aback, Severus managed to look composed as he dryly said, ‘Hello to you, too.’ He looked down his long nose at her.

She grinned up at him. ‘It’s cold.’

He raised an eyebrow, even more deadpan. ‘Really?’ Then Severus lifted her hand to identify the book she was holding. ‘Persuasion?’ he said scornfully.

Hermione stuck her tongue out. ‘It’s written by Jane Austen, Severus. It’s classic literature.’

‘It’s romantic fluff.’

‘Just because romance occurs in the --’

Regency fluff,’ he taunted. ‘You could be using your time much more wisely.’

She shoved her laughing husband off her lap. ‘Reading for fun is important!’

He pulled his gloves, coat, and boots off. Grabbing a Charms journal, he yanked his protesting wife out of his chair, flumped into it, and yanked her into the chair with him. As she rearranged the blanket, he placed his cold hands where he would be sure to make her squeak.

Hermione laid on the floor, ready to wage war on the dust bunnies under the bed. Before she could cast the charm, however, she saw a box. Curious, she pulled it out.

Severus came in with an armful of wood, stamping snow from his boots. Hermione waited for him to look at her, then held up one of the well-read books she had found.

Severus dropped the firewood.

‘So tell me,’ Hermione began conversationally. ‘All that arguing and frustration has to channel into something else. After they married, do you think Charles and Sophy ever made love on his desk?’
