I think I've been reading SSHG fanfiction too much. I have no idea why -- because I haven't read this lately -- but I've had a mental image of a story that I've read in my mind for about two days now: several chapters into the story, our heroes spend the night together. (I did remember that it wasn't an explicitly-described scene, and that it was her first time.) In the morning, she wakes, gets out of bed, and puts her nightgown on. He wakes while she's finding something for breakfast, gets out of bed too, sleepily makes his way over to her -- she notices that he seems supremely unconcerned about his nakedness -- and half-hugs, half-drapes himself over her. She presses kisses to his neck, and his stubble rasps across her skin as he mumbles good morning.

Does anyone recognize this scene with Severus and Hermione?

It isn't Severus and Hermione.

It's from Colleen McCullough's The Ladies of Missalonghi, a short novel that takes place in Australia around 1912. The woman is Missy Wright, and the man she spent the night with -- and will be marrying later that day -- is John Smith. Not a bad novel, though I don't approve of Missy's methods for getting what she wants. Though Una is partially to blame for some of it.
