Ganked from everyone: the Forty Things meme.
(I'm posting this from home, though I compiled the answers yesterday at work, which is why the answers might seem a bit off for this time of day.)

A photo of me and Phil, a ticket stub to Frankenstein;, a red paper poppy buttonhole, a school photo of Boo-Girl, and a barcode scanner that looks like one of Stan Winston's Aliens
02. Name one weird quirk about yourself.
I break the DO NOT TALK ABOUT FANDOM rule far too much
03. What are you wearing now?

The walk of shame to the vending machine to get Pepsi
14. Ever met any of your online friends in real life?

16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
Violin
17. How are you?
Headachy from caffeine deprivation
18. How do you view the world?
I'm an isolationist; I try not to
19. What are you looking forward to the most?

20. How did you come to start your LJ?
WIKTT friends were starting to sign up, and I'd been thinking about establishing a website to house all my fanfiction, so I thought an LJ would be a step in that direction
21. How did you find your first friends?
I followed my favorite authors and reviewers here from Ashwinder
22. Are those first friends still on your FL?
I've dumped the unworthy. I have had a falling out with a few folks, but for the most part, we all still like each other. Or at least tolerate each other
23. How long have you been on LJ?
Six years
24. Do you have more friends or communities on your FL?
Friends
25. What do you like in an LJ friend?
Proper capitalization, grammar, and punctuation
26. What do you dislike?
An excess of capital letters and exclamation marks, backstabbing and whining

Bullying me or someone I'm fond of, blind prejudice, especially when the offender tries to cover his/her tracks by saying, "Just a joke, folks!"
28. Have you been caught up in a lot of LJ drama?
One or two incidents, but it's been a while
29. Do RL friends and family members know you have a journal on LJ?
Some do. Phil even knows my user name and could find lots of weird stuff if he was so inclined (maybe he already has)
30. Do you also have Facebook and if so, what do you prefer – LJ or FB?
LJ is usually easier to read, and I can set my own fonts and formats
31. What about Twitter?
I'm only on it to listen to celebrities talk and occasionally send a message their way: congratulations on the BAFTA, that sort of thing. But I also send my own blurbs out into the void
32. Do you blog on any other sites?
I started one at Blogspot, but it's hooked up to Gmail, and I have to log out of my fandom account to log into my blog's e-mail account, and I can't be bothered most days. Besides, I'm not doing anything particularly interesting right now except spring cleaning, and who would read it if blogged about that?
33. How often do you check in on LJ?
Daily

Politics
35. Why don’t you post about that?
I don't see the point in arguing over opinions
36. Have you ever thought about deleting your journal?
Nope
37. Have you ever changed your username?
Not at LJ. Wish I could, but after so much time as Keladry, it would just cause confusion
38. Why did you choose your current username?
I like
tammypierce's Keladry of Mindelan, and I like Remus Lupin, too. Wish I'd chosen something a bit more original, though
39. If you’re looking for new friends, how do you find them?
Common interests or people whose writing or art I want to make sure I see as soon as it's available
40. Are you taking new people on to your Friends List just now?
As always, it depends on the person
Not a peep Wednesday about a white towel hanging out of my jeans pocket. I guess everyone at the law school already has me pegged as an eccentric, so a towel with DON'T PANIC and a thumb embroidered on it wasn't any more noteworthy than my usual weirdness. I'll probably keep it in my bag all the time, because I am rather proud of it. I loaded all five CDs of Stephen Fry reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy into my car's CD player Tuesday afternoon after a trip to the library. Stephen is the gold standard reader for audio books. Nobody can say words like "flump" and "blearily" like he can. ♥
I woke up Wednesday morning dying for a cigarette, of all things. I've never smoked or even wanted to smoke, so I've been not a little confused by three dreams in the last month that have had me finding comfort in smoking. Never dreamed that before, either; it's the oddest thing.
Dinner with Phil last night. There's a chain of restaurants in the LA area called Johnny Reb's, which (as you may have guessed) serves Southern food. In other words, everything's either fried or barbecued to within an inch of its life. But the chicken fried steak is fantastic, so there is some merit to their methods. Then Phil went on to see a play I'm not interested in while I stopped at one of the local used bookshops to see if I could clutter up the hobbit hole even more. I went in with a list a dozen books long and found three, and one of those was actually on my list!
Phil's schedule has got a bit busier now that the summer movie season has started. He was managing with 16-20 hours a week, but next week he's on duty for about 30 hours, mostly in the afternoons and/or evenings, so seeing him is going to be tougher than ever for a while. But I'm happy he's getting lots of hours to work and lots of praise from his supervisors, and we still have a few times we can see each other.
I've been going through audition websites looking for ideas for audition songs for Into the Woods. I thought I'd struck gold when I remembered Meg's lament at the beginning of Damn Yankees -- "Six Months Out of Every Year" -- because it isn't exactly easy to sing, and it's a woman exasperated by the man in her life, which fits both the Baker's Wife and Jack's Mother. But that song is out because even though Meg starts it, several other wives join in, and their rants about their husbands are interspersed with their husbands' rants at the baseball game on television. Besides, the song isn't available in sheet music form unless I buy the entire score ... which is $50.00 at the local music shop. Never mind!
I'm finding out all kinds of things about audition etiquette: it's inappropriate to sing anything from the play we're trying for, never sing Andrew Lloyd Webber, sing Sondheim only if the play is Sondheim, that sort of thing. Marla said that part of the initial audition is "reading from the sides," and I have no idea what that is, but I'm sure Google can tell me. (There are two other Orange County little theaters that I know of that are doing Into the Woods this summer. If I don't get in at the Mysterium, I ought to audition at the other places. No point in letting all this preparation go to waste.) Phil and I saw Mallory at a play over the weekend, and when she found out I was trying out next month, she said that news was going to upset a lot of women! She has a rather high opinion of my singing ability, but I do hope she's right in this case! (Of course, just because I am right for a part vocally doesn't mean I'm right for a part, full stop. I understand that. It depends on what Marla's looking for and who else auditions.) We discussed what role I might get, and Mallory thinks I'm a shoo-in for Jack's Mother, but I could be the Baker's Wife, too. I think the Baker's Wife is improbable because she has to be handsome enough for Cinderella's Prince to hit on her. Granted, he seems to be the kind of man who will nail any willing woman, but I can see him making an exception for someone as huge as I am.
I can totally see our friend Amy in that role; she's a large woman, though about three dress sizes smaller than I am. But she's younger and more handsome, too, and she has loads more experience. She was in the first play I saw at the Mysterium, but she always plays governesses, chambermaids, and overbearing mothers who should be played by women twice her age.
Mom's coming home this weekend, so I'm doing some last-minute cleaning before she gets here this afternoon. Happy Friday!
