We the jury reached a verdict, and I am confident it was just. It was a murder case. One victim, two defendants, and one defendant had was accused of doing more things, so there were two juries. We had the simpler case; it was just a question of murder versus manslaughter, and to what degree, for our defendant. It took some time for us to come to a unanimous decision, but we decided he was guilty of first degree murder.
There were parts of the case that were interesting when I could set aside the reason I was finding out this stuff. We didn't come to a decision immediately, so there was persuasion involved through (what I hope was) the practical application of logic. Some of the forensic stuff was interesting, too, especially when the woman who examined some burned documents took the stand. Even the coroner taught me some stuff I wasn't aware of; again, it's a horrible situation to be finding this stuff out, but when I could set aside the fact that our defendant allegedly caused that stuff to happen to the victim, it was very interesting.
The other defendant's case is not over yet, so we've been asked not to go into too much detail. We don't want the other jury to even know we're finished, much less what we decided! At no point was this enjoyable, but I am glad I did my duty and the best I could ... and all that BS.
Going to a birthday party is the last thing I want to be doing after wrapping up this trial, but it'll do me some good to get out and about. Otherwise, I'd stay home and brood.
