grangersnape100 group are making a push to win this week's competition, so I'm trying to pull a rabbit out of my hat. For every chapter of She Was Beautiful to Him, a full-length -- albeit incomplete -- alternate-universe story that is totally from Severus Snape's point of view, I am writing one drabble from Hermione Granger's point of view.
Title: Waking

Bitter. That was the first thing she noticed: a nasty, bitter taste in her mouth. Rough fingers slid along her throat, encouraging her to swallow.
Her mind began to clear. She hadn’t been conscious, really, but she was aware that time had passed. She was going to be in trouble, if exams were soon. Vague memories of hearing Harry and Ron, and Madam Pomfrey’s gentle voice, began to surface.
They weren’t her only visitors. Though she’d only known something was terribly wrong, and she couldn’t speak or move, she’d sometimes felt safe in the presence of someone strong and comforting.

She sat by herself at breakfast. Looking to her left, she decided that hearts and flowers were all very well, but when your only friends decided that you were less important than mangy rats and new brooms, this hideous day only served to drive home just how isolated you were.
She glanced to her right. The only respite she had from the acute loneliness that lanced through her were her visits with Hagrid, and that detention in December with Professor Snape. Hagrid was sweet, but she’d almost felt like Professor Snape had appreciated her work … if only that once.

Robes straight? Okay, you can do this. She reached for the door latch.
Parkinson’s cackle echoed off the lavatory walls, and Hermione froze. “Did you see Granger’s teeth?” Pansy sniggered. “No boy would ever ask that beaver-faced swot to dance. Bet you Potter and Weasley don’t even know she is a girl!” More laughter, and the bathroom door shut.
I will not let that cow make me cry. She washed her hands, walked out, and ran into --
Professor Snape. Her fragile control shattered upon seeing the teacher who had belittled her, and she ran back into the loo.

Kreacher’s voice, deep and gravelly, crept up the stairs. She stopped writing to listen.
“My mistress hears that Harry Potter will be coming to the house soon, the boy who defeated our Lord, oh, what a horrible shame it is when traitors and Mudbloods defile this house, and Kreacher sees it with his own eyes, that the Cooper boy loves the Mudblood --”
Her head snapped around. Mudblood must be me … but then who is Cooper?
“-- oh, the shame, if his mother knew --”
“Kreacher,” Sirius said.
“Master,” the house-elf grumbled.
“You will not speak of Cooper again.”

I'm going to ration them out, to help out the Order when we're behind the dreaded Death Eaters. I was going to have them all up by Saturday night, but we're significantly ahead at the moment, so I'm gonna hold the others back, for the moment.
