not quite awake but getting there

Phil came over for dinner, and we kept refreshing the Oscar results web page while we ate dinner and dessert. (Yay Toy Story! Yay Randy Newman! Yay Colin and Natalie!) We watched an episode of Glee that he'd missed and then saw Mom off to the Jimbos'. Two episodes of Supernatural topped it off, and oh, what scary episodes they were! They were fun, though, and he even grabbed my arm once. He tried to convince his brother to come for dinner, but Steve was engrossed in drag racing and didn't want to get up. I sent some cake home with Phil and requested that he share it, but it's entirely possible it fell victim to "car rats."
I was delighted a few days ago when I saw that an acquaintance of mine is engaged. We have a vaguely adversarial history even though similar senses of humor and shared interests should have made us friends, but we both mishandled each other early on. He's in the same singles group that I am, and he acts as uncomfortable around me as I feel about him, so words cannot express how happy I am that His Royal Awkwardness Crusty the Yutz will get married and go away for good.
Off to work in a few minutes; it's earlier than I usually roll out of bed, and I'm running late. I'm taking Dad out to lunch at his favorite restaurant as a thank-you for preparing my taxes and then showing him another used bookshop. I need to pick up copies of To Say Nothing of the Dog and The Crucible (they have a great play section), so this is going to be a nice, long lunch.
Mom called Jimbo before she left last night, and he has to have surgery pretty soon. His gall bladder is malfunctioning and needs to be removed. Not sure when, but I'll call him this afternoon to talk to him and get more details.
Mom's agreed to getting bigger bookcases! She's even agreed to pay for one of the two, and she's so excited at the prospect of bringing more of her books in from storage. So am I; she's got some great stuff, including first and second editions of the Oz books. I've called dibs on half of one bookcase, so I'll have several more feet of space to spread out on. I have some books I should get rid of (or pack away if I can't bear the thought), so that'll help with the space situation. It'll be at least two weeks before I buy the bookcases, though; the bedroom needs a thorough purging and cleaning first.
My own personal Hell Week has begun, and I must see it through. Have a good day, dears.
