*takes a deep breath* I survived the weekend and am taking the day off. It's been a lovely Christmas/birthday!

On December 24th, I ...

1. cleaned the flat like the Tasmanian Devil
2. went to dinner at Lone Star Steak House with the parents, Jimbo, Chris, Squirt, and Phil
3. returned to the flat for a combined Christmas Eve and two birthdays celebration that included:
* birthday ice cream cake
* reading Luke 2 out loud
* listening to Chris read her favorite Christmas story
* birthday presents for Mom and me (Mom is a closet prankster. She has this sweet face and innocent, blue eyes, and you'd never guess that she has such a mischievous sense of humor. She can't just give a gift card to someone, she's got to make a treasure hunt out of it. In my case, she started teasing me two days ahead of time: "Guess what this is!" It was a heavy box that seemed pretty densely packed when I shook it, so I knew it wasn't DVDs or a book. I finally got to open it that evening, and when I ripped the wrapping paper off, it was a big box of sugar cookie mix. Not undaunted, because this is what she does, I ripped the box open and started digging through the pouches of cookie mix for the bigger present. When I couldn't find it, I dumped the pouches on the floor. I'm sure Phil was thinking, What is she DOING?! but I know my mom. I finally found a Costco gift card, and we all had a good laugh). My birthday haul also included Star Trek on DVD, Julia Child's My Life in France, and money from Dad
4. took Phil home and gave him his Christmas present
5. came home to find that Jimbo had brought the tree in from the patio and that Mom had put the lights on it
6. finished embroidering a present for Ellen while watching episodes of QI and Never Mind the Buzzcocks with David Tennant in them
7. slapped my Santa hat on top of the Christmas tree and went to bed at 1:45 a.m.

On December 25th, I ...

1. decorated the tree with Mom (she likes the Santa hat, so we kept it there instead of putting the star on the top)
2. got a very sweet phone call from Phil, wishing me a happy birthday and merry Christmas
3. got cleaned up, picked Dad up, and went to breakfast at the Harbor House Cafe -- the only place besides Denny's that's open Christmas morning
4. came back to the flat for presents, which included a lovely set of plaid flannel pajamas in shades of blue with some green and yellow accent colors, Julie and Julia DVD, The Joy of Cooking, and more money from Dad
5. took Dad home while in my pajamas
6. started AND finished embroidering Boo-Girl's Christmas present between noon and midnight while I watched movies

On December 26th, I ...

1. took my car in for maintenance
2. got donuts for me and Mom on the way home (I hadn't had a donut in three years)
3. got ready to go to the Jimbos', picked up the car, picked up the parents, and went to Riverside
4. enjoyed a lovely day with all four Jimbos (Boo-Girl was missing on Christmas Eve because she was in Vegas with her father), including a nap with a pair of puppies and a delicious dinner. Presents included The Groucho Letters, a Hershey's cookbook, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, and a funny little wind-up toy for my desk at work
5. baked cookies from the mix I received for my birthday
6. played Apples to Apples with everyone but Dad, who was interested in football. Squirt can't read, so she and Mom teamed up together
7. came home and went straight to bed

Since I'm listing presents in this post, I'll also add checks from Aunt Jo and Aunt Millie. Unfortunately, the car maintenance yesterday resulted in a phone call, telling me that a belt and another part are starting to deteriorate, so they need to be replaced to the tune of four hundred-ish dollars. At least I have all this Christmas/birthday money ... I'd be in deep $H!& without it.

On December 27th, I have had a bit of breakfast and am sitting here in my lovely new plaid flannel pajamas and lovely old bunny slippers, sipping herbal tea and about to start on the friends list. I wouldn't normally try to catch up on three whole days of missed flist, but I know there are some birthday greetings in between posts at [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho about The End of Time, and I want to thank them all for their kind wishes.

So that's it. Picspam of the tree and a squirrel to follow. I hope you all had a great holiday (or at least a great weekend)!
