sixteen random things

keladry_lupinOnce you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 16 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 16 people to be tagged.
1. I was reciting the alphabet before I was one, I was reading before I was three, but I couldn't write until I was seven.
2. Whenever a movie has a secret to be revealed (like The Sixth Sense or What Dreams May Come), I watch it a second time to see how knowing the secret affects my view of events in the film. Sometimes it holds up, sometimes it doesn't.
3. It's one of my resolutions this year to wear more red.
4. While I believe in hell in a Judeo-Christian sense, I do believe that a great deal of it has to do with the mind and the people we are while we're alive. Beating ourselves up for our mistakes and hindsight being 20/20. Knowing where we screwed up and it had a significant effect on someone else. That kind of thing.
5. I have about thirty cookbooks in my kitchen. Out of the thousands of recipes contained in those books, I have tried about twenty. And only half of those have gone into my regular rotation.
6. It's another of my goals to go on a date. Who knows? Wearing more red might lead to this one.
7. I buy earrings galore, but I always end up wearing my thin silver hoops in the first hole and silver studs in the second.
8. I have a very weird fascination with philtrums. I'll still look at a man's eyes, smile, and shoulders first, but the philtrum is something I look at, too.
9. I keep all photo Christmas cards, all thank-you notes, and any cards (Valentine's, birthday, Christmas) that are hand made. (I've even framed some of them, and my favorite Christmas card ever is pinned up in my cubicle at work.) I also still have my farewell card from when I left my last job four years ago, because the photo on the front recalls a silly moment that kept several of us in stitches for a good five minutes.
10. When I donate my hair this time, I'm getting it cut short. Not quite as short as a boy's, but short like Maddy's when Jonathan Creek first aired. I shall experiment with spikes and different colors of gel, though I shan't wear any of that kind of thing to work or church.
11. There are some healthy foods I do like; it's just a pain to prepare them and then clean up afterwards.
12. I am so lazy, I will drop a book cover on the near end of the piano instead of walking an extra two steps to the far end, finding the naked book, and putting the cover on it.
13. I love working with pen and ink. The smears, the backaches, the terror of screwing up and having to start all over again. The cleanliness of the lines, the effects of stippling and crosshatching, the joy when something comes out perfect. After every dip of the pen into the ink, I test it to make sure it won't blob out, and I always end up writing something I think is interesting or intriguing (especially if I know someone else is going to see the stuff outside the drawing itself).
14. I have a difficult time putting the past behind me. It twines itself around the present and colors everything I do, and whenever I make a decision based on what's gone before, the effects are sure to come out differently. (Usually with disastrous results.)
15. I have very old hands. My palms and fingers have twice as many creases as everyone else. Aunt Ruthie said it's because I'm an old soul.
16. I love live performances of theater, music, and comedy. Each performance, even when it's been rehearsed to death, is a unique moment that will never happen exactly the same way again. It's also enjoyable when I hear the audience's feedback, especially in comedy when I hear a few hundred people yukking their heads off.
