wiped out

Well, I got one of the two shower doors clean. Took me longer than I care to admit to get all the soap scum and mildew out of there.

Dave did something weird to my shower water control thingy. It used to have the entire range of cold to scalding in one clockwise 270-degree turn. Now I can go 90 degrees anticlockwise and get a cold shower or 180 degrees clockwise and get a scalding or very hot shower, but no lukewarm shower, which is what I like. I discovered this unfortunate change this evening as I was scrubbing down the bathroom, and it's too late to ask him WTF he did to my shower.

WTF did he do to my bathroom? The mirror is back on the wall -- he wanted to leave it outside for a week and suggested that I do my hair and makeup in the car "like every other woman in America" (I nearly belted him) -- because Robert patched and spackled for hours, but no painting was done. The patches need time to dry/set, so Robert will be back in a week. I shall have a blue bathroom then.

This process is like part of my train ride to Dallas this year. As we pulled into San Antonio, I knew it was going to be a miserable overnight stay in coach before spending most of the next day making our way north. I knew it would be horrid, but it would end happily. So all of the inconveniences I'm in the process of griping about are only a temporary state. It'll all be over soon, and I'll have a beautiful flat with walls that aren't plain and white!

The shower doors are still outside. There's nothing between me and the rest of the bathroom for an entire week, because the only shower curtain I have is cloth and purely for decorative purposes. I'm going to go through a lot of towels this week, sopping up the water on the floor. (Or I could just go to Dad's to shower every morning this week.) The medicine cabinet is outside, too.

Had a busy but good day. Hit Costco, then came home and talked with [livejournal.com profile] deemichelle for an hour. Then hit the supermarket and Chinese fast food place -- the first fast food I've had in a month (poverty is a great diet) -- before immediately running back out the door to pick Dad up. We went to Mom's flat and got there about ten minutes before Jimbo and the girls. Jimbo's friend Freddo fixed Mom's computer -- wiping out all the spyware and viruses and everything -- and Jimbo set it up for her today. Boo and Squirt both made a bit of money for their efforts in dusting books, crawling around on the floor and connecting wires, dusting, and carrying stuff hither and thither.

Came home several hours later, completely worn out. I immediately changed clothes, donning a long black dress that I bought for casual walks to the mailbox and cleaning and such. (Like a long nightshirt, but not too short or too ratty for public use.) I went into the bathroom and started to clean. The guys are pretty good about cleaning up after themselves, but they did leave lots of dust and little pieces of plaster and drywall all over the place. So I've scrubbed the counters, toilet, and bathtub. The tub will need some more elbow grease, but I have a week to get it sparkly.

I'd just sprayed Lysol on the toilet rim and was letting it sit for a moment before scrubbing when Boo-Cat came out of nowhere and jumped on the toilet. He's taken to sitting on the lid, since I always close it, so he just assumed it'd be closed this time. He didn't fall in, but it was a close thing. But he got Lysol all over his paws, belly, and tail, so I closed the door and began to fill the sink. Poor baby! Now he's moaning like a little cow, letting out low, mournful meows because I rinsed him off from the neck down. Then he -- still sopping wet -- decided he'd had enough and turned around and started to climb the front of my dress, so I cuddled him for about two minutes, with him dripping down my front and me holding him like a baby that I'm trying to burp, crooning at him the whole time. I grabbed a towel and started to dry him off, but he's going to smell like wet dog for two or three days, mark my words.

Early choir practice in the morning, since we're singing tomorrow. My eyelids are drooping, so it's past time for me to hit the sack. I hope everyone had a good Saturday!
