I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy ...
The computer guys are working late, installing a wireless network in the library. A fellow from the main campus has been here all week, and while I've helped him find JD's phone number and all that, I hadn't actually met him until this evening. Head Computer Guy is rather gruff -- though he has a wicked sense of humor -- but he's gruff enough that I've always been a bit intimidated by him. He breezed in through the back door half an hour ago with a pizza for him and Main Campus Guy, and he invited me to come into their temple (the room with the servers and tons of software and equipment) for some pizza. MCG was on the phone, but HCG and I chatted about our vacations for a bit, and when I said I was at a Harry Potter convention, MCG asked if I was the owner of the car with the HP-themed license plate frame. ("Slytherin Quidditch Captain.") I passed a very pleasant half hour with the computer guys, met MCG formally (Jim), had a nice conversation, and had some pretty good pizza. (They wouldn't let me pay for a share of it, either, which was nice.)
Now I'm back at my desk with a big grin on my face. Like I said, it doesn't take much.
(BTW, Portus-goers: Jim mentioned that he's going to Europe in a couple of months on a missionary trip, but he's a HP fan. So not all Christian missionary-types are clench-keistered jerks!)
