I was at choir practice this evening, and while the director was asking for volunteers to sing a solo on one of the Christmas songs, some of the sopranos behind me nudged me and said, 'Why don't you try it?'
I'd already looked at the music and seen that it goes up to a G sharp above the treble staff. I shook my head.
'But you can reach that,' they protested.
'Easy,' I replied.
'Well then?'
'Just 'cause I can hit it doesn't mean it'll sound good.'
Then I got a scowl from the director for making half the soprano section laugh loudly when he was trying to talk.
