ganked from everyone
Feb. 13th, 2008 10:08 amThe Ten-Things-That-Make-a-Keladry-Fic Meme (though in each case, you can find at least one of my eleven HGSS fics that doesn't obey at least one of these rules):
1. There is astronomy in the fic. At some point, you will see a character under the night sky, looking up.
2. Hermione is not Azkaban bait when romance enters the picture, and romance ALWAYS enters the picture.
3. Severus is in character to everyone else, but he's "meltingly romantic" with Hermione when they're alone. (amr said it, not me!)
4. There are buried book, movie, and song lyric quotes. I borrow from my favorite sources.
5. I show more of what is going on in the character's/characters' heads than what is going on around them. It's much easier to write an internal struggle than an external struggle.
6. They aren't perfect physically. Hermione has spots, and her hair is truly a brambly riot when left to its own devices. Severus, similarly, is not handsome. But each is attractive to -- and attracted to -- the other.
7. The fic is at least partially, if not completely, from Severus' point of view.
8. Hermione takes the initiative in their romance at least once. She proposes marriage, initiates their first intimate experience, or just darts forward to kiss Severus' cheek. This always takes him by surprise.
9. Blushing. Lots of it, too, no matter how mature they are.
10. Hermione's Slytherin-ish qualities and Severus' Gryffindor-ish qualities are played up. Severus holds onto House prejudices because he's still Head of Slytherin, but if the fic is set somewhere other than Hogwarts, the House profiling is downplayed or nonexistent.
Honorable mention: werewolves are in there somewhere, 'cause I love my Remus.
Come to think of it, lots of these points apply to the other universes in which I have dabbled in fanfiction. Six of them are in my first-ever fanfic, which takes place in a Galaxy Far, Far Away and feature the two lovely people in my icon.
Edit: I knew I'd done this meme before! I just didn't know I'd done it so recently: here it is.
