Friday Five came early this week!

1) If you had to move 100 miles or more to the north, east, west, or south, which would you choose, where would you end up, and what's so great about there?

2) Do you have a favorite stretch of highway or byway for driving, touring, or wandering?

3) Are you happier to start a trip or return home?

4) Plane, train, automobile, bicycle, or foot?

5) Do you overplan or underplan your travels? (Assume that "no" is not a valid answer.)

1. I shall go about 250 miles northwest, which would land me here:

That's Morro Bay. That rock that my head is blocking the view of is about 600 feet tall. The sandspit encloses a harbor about two or three miles long. The ocean keeps the temperatures very moderate; neither excessively warm nor cold, though it often gets foggy or rainy (but I love the fog and the rain). Beautiful town, though it is somewhat touristy. (But I'm a tourist when I go there, so I don't mind much.) And there's a great golf course, a nice campground with several hiking trails, good surfing on the far side of the Rock (though I haven't surfed in years) ....

2. Pacific Coast Highway. I go cruising south through Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach. I take the Balboa Island Ferry and then go back home the way I came. It's about two hours, round trip.

3. It's about even. I'm excited to start a trip, but there's always a point when my body is still en route to home, but in my mind the trip is OVER AND I WANT TO BE HOME NOW. So stepping into my flat feels just as good.

4. Definitely the train!

5. Overplan. But it usually turns out for the best; my family loves travelling with me, because I really study our destination. Mom says that I have all my "ducks in a row." And they just follow along and enjoy the trip I planned for them.
