First Kiss Meme: Ficlet 2 of 6

Not betaed. Set in Grimmauld Place just after Voldemort's defeat, July 1998. Inspired partially by the picture at the bottom of the post.

Hermione stood on her tiptoes, straining to reach the tin of biscuits from the third shelf of the kitchen cupboard. She even jumped once, trying to catch the tin with her fingertips, but it remained out of reach. Hell and damn! she thought. Why did I leave my wand upstairs? And why does Harry have to store my favourite biscuits all the way up there?! It didn’t help that she was still a little hung over from last night’s victory party; her head throbbed, and she wanted the biscuits and some tea to settle her stomach. Sighing heavily enough to blow a stray lock of hair out of her eyes, she turned to get a chair …

… and saw Remus in the doorway, arms folded, amusement in his tired eyes. ‘Having a little trouble, Hermione?’

‘I suppose you enjoyed the entertainment,’ she grumbled. Her lanky friend merely tilted his head back a bit, looking down his awkward nose at her, and she glared at him. ‘Be a gentleman.’

Remus chuckled a bit, and fetched the biscuits for her. It was within easy reach for him, the smug bastard. And smug certainly described his expression as he handed her the tin.

Hermione breathed deeply, trying not to react to being so close to him. But he smelled so good, like the parchment from old books. Or the forest. Old books in the forest … Oh, don't be ridiculous, Granger. She blinked, trying to stay focussed. He smells like Amortentia, she remembered. It wasn’t nauseating at all, unlike everything else that had reached her nose this morning. ‘Thank you,’ she murmured, trying to keep her voice even. ‘D … did you want tea?’

He shook his head, his eyes crinkling up at the corners first, and then the smile -- a somewhat wolfish smile -- curled his lips. ‘Something sweeter,’ he murmured, taking the tin out of her hand.

Sweet, indeed, Hermione decided as he kissed her gently.

I'd seen this picture ages ago -- and I know Thewlis isn't everyone's Lupin -- but this is it for me:

I'm almost done with [livejournal.com profile] stasia's request, and the other three are half-written. So keep your eyes peeled for them in the next few days!
